Chauka Sisters on Sunday added silverware on their shelf after emerging Mzuzu City Presidential Cup Netball champions.

Inspired by wing attacker Martha Mwangonde, centre Queen Mphepo, goal attacker Jane Ngalonde and shooter Eliza Nyirenda, Chauka finished top of the 21-member league on 25 points.

“We are excited to have grabbed this cup after a long time,” Chauka Sisters captain Mervis Kayange said after her team’s ceremonial game against Mimosa Queens at the Rosedale courts.

For their feat, they carted home K100 000 while runners-up Mimosa Queens, who finished on 24 points, pocketed K70 000.

Moyale were third on 23 points and received K50 000 while Fonco got K30 000 for finishing fourth.   All teams that made it in the top 10 received balls.

Guest of hounour Gina Mwase thanked government for bankrolling the cup, saying it has exposed a lot of talent in Mzuzu.

She then appealed for more sponsorship from various companies to supplement the existing ones.

Sports development officer for the North Georgina Msowoya urged the teams to work hard ahead of the regional and national presidential finals.
